Looking on the Internet for a tutorial to add “share on Facebook” button to your WordPress.com blog? WordPress.com does not have a widget that lets you add “share on” buttons to your blog. But that does not stop you from actually adding it to your blog, does it..? Well, look no further, below are easy steps that will let you add a “share on Facebook”, “share on Twitter” and many more buttons to your WordPress.com blog. Note that this procedure is for a particular post on your blog. You will have to create separate buttons for each and every blog post by following this same procedure.

Steps to add “share on” button to your Blog

Step I

Download a small Windows based free-ware application called GetSocial or, go to GetSocial Live if you prefer the cross-platform web based version.

Step II

Run the GetSocial.exe file. It will present you with options to create social bookmarking icons or to create 3rd party buttons (Add This, AddToAny). Select “add social bookmarking icons to my new post”. Click Next.

Step III

Copy/Paste your Post Title and Post Permalink(or Shortlink) in the field provided. Select “Check Permalink”. Click Next.

Step IV

Select the appearance of the buttons from the five available options. You will be presented with the preview of the buttons. Click Next.

Step V

Click “Send to Clipboard” to copy the code to clipboard.

Step VI

Paste this HTML code in your blog post at appropriate place, usually in the beginning or at the end of the post.

Step VII

Publish/Update Your Blog Post.

You can also share your entire blog by using the link to your blog instead of post permalink. You will have to paste the HTML code in a text/HTML widget, instead of a post. The buttons should be visible in the sidebar of your blog. Third Party buttons like AddThis or AddToAny can also be created by selecting the “Create 3rd party button” option in the first step and then following the steps similar to that described above. Using cross-platform Web-based application GetSocial Live is simpler and is similar to the steps described above but lacks the option of creating 3rd party buttons.

Please feel free to comment on the post. Your suggestions about improvements, discrepancies and critical comments are welcome.
